30/6/2000. Contractor Leonardo Da Vince Program for the Development of an Integrated, Distance Learning, Training Module for the Oil Industry, with responsibility for the development of one of the training modules related to “Safety & Occupational Health”.

The program, is funded by the EU and 8 organizations from Cyprus, Greece, Spain and Rumania are participating. The 3 Modules in the Program are:

The pilot implementation of the project took place in April 2001.

Career Synopsis:

1971- 1995 Twenty - five years in Cyprus Petroleum Refinery Ltd. Company from recruit to Senior General Shift Supervisor. The Cyprus Refinery Company produces petroleum products for the Cyprus market, LPG, Gasoline, Aviation Turbine Fuel, Kerosine, Gas Oil, Light Fuel Oil, Heavy Fuel Oil, and three grades of Bitumen.

Trainer and Consultant for ORCA Marketing and Consultancy Ltd for Refinery Operations and Safety in Refinery Operations, Refinery Emergency Planning and Operations.
Career
Responsibilities: Responsible as a General shift supervisor for all the above derivatives processing. Was responsible for the Utilities section (water distillation and treatment, steam and gas generation, air compression, sea water cooling etc. plus the receipt of crude oil tankers and the transfer of finished products to the market companies.

Other responsibilities included health and safety operations monitoring, safety planning, energy conservation, fire and emergency control.
Training duties: Training duties after completing a course on Instruction & Training included 'On the job' training in the refinery, academic and practical training for new operators and technologists, refresher training for operators and training for operators to supervisory levels. Also conducted courses in the new Crude distiller and Hydrotreater in Refinery operations.

Refinery Operations:
During major shut downs was shutdown supervisor and duties included - clearance certificates, gas testing and isolation and safety advisor.

Was a member of the refinery safety committee and recommended new safety working practices and improvements.

Made recommendations in processing operations to increase safe capacity and formulated documents for standard operating procedures that ensure compliance in work practice. Also assisted in re-designing start up and shutdown procedures of certain units.

1991: Member of a three man investigating team for a fire/explosion incident inside a Bitumen Hot Oil Heater.

1993: Member of a five man investigating team of an explosion incident that occurred at the Bitumen Blowing column.

1995 to 1999 Independent training consultant for Middle East, North
African countries and Cyprus Petroleum Company,
conducting basic refinery operations courses.

1999 to 2003 Chief Consultant in Oil Refinery and Plant Operations &
